Loretta Youngman
Loretta Youngman was an internationally recognized and award-winning artist whose work was shaped by her life and experiences across the globe. Having lived and taught art at international schools in the Philippines, Taiwan, and Hungary, Loretta drew much of her inspiration from her extensive travels. She held a degree from Elon University and a master’s degree from the University of the Philippines, both of which have contributed to her deep understanding of art.
Loretta began her artistic journey in realism, where she honed her foundational skills. This experience sparked her curiosity for the innovative techniques found in contemporary art. She was captivated by the use of vibrant colors and unique combinations, allowing her to create with freedom, intuition, and boldness.
Her work has been featured in prestigious venues such as the Salamagundi Club in New York City, where two of her paintings were selected for exhibition. She was also honored with a solo show sponsored by the Coordination Council for North American Affairs in New York City. Loretta's captivating artworks are cherished in galleries and private collections across the United States, Asia, and Europe, reflecting her dynamic and evolving artistic vision.
Loretta passed in 2026, and The Loretta Youngman Educational Legacy Award was created. Presented by the Florida Women’s Arts Association, the award honors an exceptional arts educator in Volusia County who embodies a passion for teaching, a deep commitment to their students, and a dedication to advancing the arts in both the classroom and the broader community. This award celebrates an individual who inspires creativity, nurtures artistic growth, and actively promotes the value of the arts among students, peers, and the community at large.
In recognition of their impact, a $1,000 donation is made in the recipient’s name directly to their school to support classroom resources and opportunities that enrich students’ artistic experiences. Through this award, Loretta Youngman’s legacy continues to uplift educators who shape the next generation of artists and creative thinkers.
